In fact, I even avoid some of them. Others, however, there is nothing I can do about And it’s not that these situations ruin my vacation – far from it. But you know those little details that don’t really need to be included in a travel itinerary? That’s exactly what I’m talking about. However, since it is impossible to get rid of these annoyances, at least not most of the time, the way is to accept them with good humor. Even because they can star in beautiful tragicomic scenes of the traveling life.
1- Airport procedures
I’m not hiding it from anyone: I avoid airports whenever possible . I’d rather spend ten hours on a night bus ride than go to the airport for a one-and-a-half-hour flight.
And I actually like the feeling of being in an airport and watching the passengers come and go. However, for me, the procedures that are part of this stage of the trip are torture.
The hassle starts before you even get to the airport , after all, getting there usually costs a lot of money, a lot of time, or both. I still dream of the day when all airports will be connected to a subway line.
Once you get there, the marathon begins: checking in your luggage, going through the X-ray machine, queuing to board, flying, the hustle and bustle of disembarking, going through immigration, hoping your suitcase arrives and spending a lot more time or money to get to your accommodation.
2- Long layovers during the night
I could be wrong, but I highly doubt anyone would buy a plane ticket with a layover between 1 AM and 10 AM because they like spending the night in an airport .
At least when this happens to me the reason is different: it was possibly the cheapest ticket I found. But remember that depending on the price difference, the savings may not be worth it. After all, either you fast or you will have to face a problem that I already mentioned in the previous item: the exorbitant price of food at airports.
3- Crowded tourist attraction
Another thing I don’t mind at all when traveling is finding tourist attractions packed with people. Obviously, it would be selfish and clueless on my part to think that there would be such a cool place just for me or a few tourists.
However, if I could choose between visiting a quiet beach and another where I have to be careful not to bump into anyone in the water, I would choose the first option without a doubt.
4- If you feel harmed
What traveler is happy to discover that they paid double for a taxi ride simply because they are a tourist? Or that food near a tourist attraction costs three times more than at a restaurant a few miles away? Or, that the police or immigration agent is trying to charge you some fee that simply doesn’t exist? I don’t think anyone, right?!
5- Jet lag
“I miss that jet lag from my last trip!!!” That’s a phrase I’ve never heard. It’s three in the morning, you have to get up at six and you still haven’t even got a wink of sleep.
On the other hand, during that trip that was supposed to be super fun, you are as excited as on a rainy Monday morning. Jet lag is definitely not a popular problem among travelers.
6- Rainy day at the beach
And speaking of rainy days, one of my biggest nightmares is traveling to the beach and only getting caught in the rain. I’ve been through this a few times and I confess that it’s not one of the things that makes me happy during a trip And let’s face it, the beach is really good when the sky is blue and the sun is shining.
7- Pack your bags to go back
There are those who don’t like to pack their bags even when it’s time to start a trip, which is not my case.
On the other hand, packing your backpack on the last day of your trip is one of the most annoying things I find during a trip. The only thing worse than that is unpacking it when I get home.
